Duo Squared video playlist

A video playlist of several takes of “Duo Squared,” a piece that uses recordings of each side of previously recorded improvised duets between trombonist Jeff Albert and guitarist Anthony Cammarota as the corpora in Somax2, an AI powered interactive music system, allowing the software to remix, or not, what was originally a real-time dialogic interaction.

5 minute video from Moxsonic 2024

MOXSonic is a great annual experimental music conference held at the University of Central Missouri. On of the many great features of this gathering is a session made up of 5 minute video presentations. Each presenter makes a video that is no longer than 5 minutes. The participants gather and watch the videos, then have Q&A with the presenter after the video viewing.

So many AI questions

It seems like my ideas about “good” and “bad” AI are changing daily. I am coming around to understanding the ways in which some tools can be very useful when we use them as tools. I am still deeply resentful of much of the rhetoric about how AI will (or can) do almost anything for us. What helps us be better people, who make better music?

IRCAM

In October of 2025 I had a chance to visit IRCAM in Paris. I spent some time with Gérard Assayag and Marco Fiorini talking about the Somax2 software, and saw the fabulous facilities. We also stopped in to say hello to Miller Puckette.
